Black and Mustard

With clients dresses ordered and other being amended for a national event in London mid November it's nice to have outfits that are great to wear for running to clients for fittings, traveling and comfy enough to continue with blogging, orders and emails etc. when home. For me it's black skinny jeans, a tee and staple black leather boots. I didn't want to look too moody today so I decided to add my mustard scarf!

Have a nice day! Ryan x

Winter Sun

It's Thursday! Finally it's not raining again and the sun is out a little! Ok, it's still a little cold but still! With a list full of designing, photography, call making and general sorting to do for the day I'm thankful for the bit of sun!

Have a good one!

The Front Line

Hello!

Ready to fight? This season sees the return of the utility/military trend. I love this trend as I think its effortless and my military boots from River Island are a major staple in my day to day wardrobe anyway. This is becoming a trend that returns season after season with designers outing their own twists and influences.

Look for tones of khaki, black and sand. Neutral tones work best. A key way to work this trend is to mix textures. Mix wools, leather and faux fur to add major interest and variety to the look. A wool jumper paired with a faux fur trimmed parka with skinny jeans and of course statement military leather boots will work a treat! No accessories needed! Effortless. Designers such as Balmain, Isabel Marant and Balenciaga used this trend for their AW14 shows. An easy way to look at this trend and what you could pull from your wardrobe you have already is to think about utility. Pockets, zips, hoods or waterproof fabric etc. Is the garment very practical?

Guy's you can wear this trend too! The same rules apply!

Right Shoe Forward

Hello!

Each season see's one item that everyone sees as a must have. The golden ticket to the fashion frontline. This season we see the return of the boot. I personally love my military boots for all seasons and I see them as being my major players in my day to day wardrobe. Boots are investment pieces of fashion I think. They are bigger shoes, more statement making and more interesting. More fun if you like.

They can be dressed up or dressed down. Designers from Versace, Michael Kors and Topshop Unique and many, many more have created boots for their autumn winter collections. Knee high boots for women are my favourite. Pair these with a '50's style a line skirt with a sporty tee tucked in with a belt will be sure to win you style points this season! Ankle boots that are looser in fabric so they roll around your ankle look great with denim and roll up the hem of the jeans too for more interest. As stylish as they are maybe think about practicality of the boots when buying them! You may love cut out boots that reveal more leg but is it worth having your legs freeze if it starts snowing?

Guy's, look to military boots and Chelsea boots this season! Pair these with a classic pair of jeans with the hems rolled for extra style points. Add a pea coat and a scarf and you've got a perfect effortless look for autumn and winter!

A Whole New Look

Hello!

New Look is British fashion brand that is known for its affordability and great women's wear. However, did you know that they also have menswear too? No? not surprising as this isn't a well known fact but that is about to change!

On a recent visit to a New Look store in Meadowhall in Sheffield I was shown around the new men's range and their new approach to men's fashion. The brand is predominantly a women's fashion retailer with a huge shoe range. I mean, its epic. After going around the range, learning and loving, it shocked me why people aren't aware of this and why it isn't as popular as I think it should be. Then I started to think back to when I used to visit New Look when I was around 13 and I can remember the range of men's fashion available being very mix matched. The yester year of fashion for the brand is gone now with a full on amazing collection of amazing fashion.

I was amazed be the growth of the men's department and I was so excited to see that the store has looked and dedicated time to the range. A real passion came through as we chatted about everything from the past, how men shop, my thoughts and their plans for the future. The thought of shop by trend and I love that each trend has a different guy name. Such as Alex for the Vinyl "fashion forward" trend, Jack for the Sports trend and Tom for Geek Chic. After plenty of notes being made it was time for the really fun bit! The try on! I asked Alex, the Men's wear Expert at New Look Meadowhall, to choose some pieces from the range that he liked and thought would look good together and I would then try them on and we could take some photos.

The rail of clothes emerged and it looked fab from the get go. We took the rail to the dressing room and the clothes really started to show themselves off. The quality and the fit of these clothes has really sky rocketed from my experience in the past. In a matter of fact I was originally wearing black super skinny jeans anyway that day and Alex had picked a pair out for me to try on and they fitted even better than mine did! Not to mention the stunning fit of everything else on that rail! I bought he two scarfs you see in the photo's. Worn them every day since!

I think I've covered the fantastic quality, fit and range that the store offers but what I would also like to day is the amazing, un-beatable customer service I was given during my visit. With big smiles, warm welcomes and a "nothing is too  much trouble" approach, the team made me feel so welcome and even part of the New Look family. All of them were also very stylish too. After being treated like a king for a good few hours and having a great chat with everyone I can see amazing things happening with the New Look men's range. I know where I'm going when pay day comes! Not to mention Christmas!

Here's the photos from the day. Check out the Meadowhall Sheffield store today! I can guarantee you'll be very happy you did. Remember, to "Always Be Classic".

It's summer and we all know what that means! Summer bodies! I'll be completely honest and say that I do love to be active and excersise and healthy but I am lazy when it comes down to it. I need something quick, easy and simple that I can get done without dreading the amount of time it will take up. I just want to tone up a bit and to bulk a bit that's all. I'm not asking for an Greek god figure. That's where the 7 minute workout appcomes in! Everyday for 7 months you do a 7 minute workout and the app tracks our progress. Pencil It In

I need to be more organised and as a matter of fact it's one of my things to do for 2014! Last year I got a Filofax as a gift and lately I have used it religiously in an attempt to be really organised with day to day life in general. It is working too! I feel more organised now I'm using it. A very functional, personal accessory!

One good tip for keeping organised that I learned at a training session was to make a list of the things you want to do the next day. Just take 15 minutes to jot them down. Then put times next to them, when to start and when to finish. This makes you more motivated to get them finished so you stay on schedule!

Happy organising!

The Asos way

Asos. A place where fashion brands meet and style is born online. This company has been a fashion favourite with budding stylist and designers alike for years now and its easy to see why. With menswear its easy to find clothing that's basically the same as everywhere else on the high street and quite soon every guy you see looks more or less the same with maybe a bigger beard or with a hat. Boring. But what if there was a place where we could shop various brands from high street to designer and create our own unique look all in one go! Say hello to Asos!

I love the basic essentials at the minute and for me there are pieces that definitely need to be in a guys day to day wardrobe. Here is three for example: The simple hoodie, a simple plain black t shirt and skinny jeans. Basic and simple but interchangeable and effortless style. The idea being that you can look great without even having to try hard! Everyone's dream!

Here are my Asos picks for the men's essentials!

I love rolling my black skinny jeans up a little bit then pairing with sneakers or high tops! This is great for day and night time outfits and can never go wrong! Pair your skinnies with a great fun printed T shirt and a few wristbands. Have fun with your print! Be wild, fun and wacky! No limits!

A denim jacket in a contrasting shade to your jeans works a treat! For me I have classic black skinny jeans so I love to wear these with my light wash denim jacket for a bit of classic rock style with high tops and wristbands! Whats great with a denim jacket is that you can wear it with anything in your wardrobe! dress it up or dress it down. Do double denim! Layer up in winter with a hoodie underneath!

Be Creative with your essential picks! Don't be scared to mix and match your picks to create completely unique fun outfits!

What will you choose? Who knows you may even find a completely new look!

Back To Basics

With fashion ever evolving and styles changing more than your underwear it's hard to keep up. Men's and women's fashion is getting more and more eclectic as time goes on. Jewellery and prints are taking over the stores and I think it's time for a chill pill.

Months ago I was the type of person that had jewellery from Topman falling out of my ears. Spikes, knuckle dusters and chains earings were everywhere. No day without an eccentric accessory on. Nowadays it's easier. Calmer. More manly in a way. Men's fashion has turned quite feminine over the years and it's nice to see stores like H&M still fightin the fashion front with basic manly pieces. It seems I've replaced my jewellery with joggers, which are now one of my favourite pieces of clothing to wear ever, and it's great to be able to just throw something on and for it to fit well together without having to have an hour plannnng it before hand.

H&M have created the Basic range for men. Simple colours such as grey, black and burgundy. Warm colours that suit any body. Easy. The key pieces include joggers, sweaters, vests and hoodies as well as the ver classic t-shirt. Every bit of this collection works together, no clashing and no working out to do about the matching colour scene. It's all done for you. This style will never clash with trends either. It's timeless and classic.

So chill out, relax. Be simple and calm in what you wear. Be comfy in your clothes not suffering from dangerous looking accessories that could potentially take someone's eye out. Be a man.

We Need A Revolution

Don't get me wrong, I love the men's fashions trends that are out on the high street as much as the next style savvy guy but I do have to admit that it's getting a little bland now. Hashtags such as #mensfashion will bring up hundreds of the same look over and over again. The tailored suit, the broques and the quiff. It's a stunning look, very dapper, sexy and cool but I'm seeing it far too much and there's no variation or persanility in the looks! Men are becoming boring, or at least their clothing is. Walking down the street you can garrantee to see an over the top guy wearing what looks like should a be a women's outfit complete with foundation and Beatle Crushers! I'm all for the edgy and the fun, sure push the boundaries but remember that your a man. If you don't wear a bra then put the make up down and back away slowly.

My style has changed a lot throughout collage and univeristy and I'm happy with where it is now. I'm more than happy to turn up to university in a pair of joggers, others would rather die than even consider the idea. Coincidentally I'm actually wearing joggers while writing this post. Comfy.

This isn't to say that I want every man to start living in joggers because then the world would just be chavy. I'm saying that we need a change. A new icon. A new look. The 2013/14 man.

Mission Accepted

Recently I've experience having lots of focus and determination to get practising and get uni work done. Loving it. After not knowing what to expect from my first year at uni, looking back I know I could've done a few things better and I given the chance again I would approach them and complete them in very different ways.

This year, my second year, will be very different. I will look back at the projects given and be able to say "I did really well"  or "I'm proud of that". Work as hard as I can. Even in my spare time ill be practising designing, embroidery and sewing. Alexander McQueen didn't just float through. Chanel didn't say "oh we" when something didn't go her way. Thi isn't just a week long thing. It's a life long mission to be the best I can be. To make people proud. I want people to see my collection in the Graduate Fashion Show and think "he did it", "he proved us wrong".

Let the fight to reach the top begin...

Urban Style

One of my favourite stores out there on the high street is Urban Outfitters. The men's fashion and the women's fashion is eclectic, vibrant and comical. Everything we like. Men's wear is a battlefield, you can't be too edgy without being "dodgy" or "weird" but I feel this store does it right. The style is edgy but manly. Sporty.

I noticed many staples in their garments. One of their wardrobe and style staples was the ever classic check shirt. This is one of my top things a man should have in their wardrobe. It works with everything and can be worn dressed up or dressed down. Urban outfitters layered theirs with soft jumpers and wool hats giving the mannequins a very preppy look. Another mannequin had a 1950's style bomber jacket over the top with black denim shorts. Amazing. Defiantly going to be layering my jumper with check shirts. I think I'll make mine more casual though and wear some joggers with them.

The next was the basic tee. The main item in most men's wardrobe this classic had a few UO twists. The design team had used over sized tropical floral prints in blacks and oranges for strong contrasts. Tie dye and spots also had a strong print influence. Rolled sleeves and joggers hit a home run for me, I loved this style. Easy and simple to wear day to day. Perfect. They even had hit a micro trend that's recently hit the streets which is making designer labels comical. These two tee's had "Homies" (instead of Hermes) and Ain't Laurent (Yves Laurent)!!

Over all I think Urban Outfitters have further shown me that great style can be so simple. Easy. Don't think about what to wear, just go with your instinct and style will come naturally.
